How Celery Juice Helped Me Conquer Constipation

How Celery Juice Helped Me Conquer Constipation

Did you know that a healthy body produces 1 to 3 quality formed bowel movements each day? For many years, not only was I unaware of this, but I certainly wasn’t even coming close to producing such results. During my early teenage years I had no idea that I was constipated, no one talked about poop and I just figured I was fairly normal. Even once I discovered that I wasn’t pooping enough and was “managing” my bowels with medications and laxatives, I was actually still constipated. Fast forward many years and now celery juice has finally helped me achieve those healthy 1 to 3 quality movements each and every day!

What Is Really Behind Constipation?

Hyrdochloric acid. Plain and simple. We need our body’s special blend of acids to properly break food down and keep our digestive system alkaline. If your stomach doesn’t have the right balance of acid then you can’t properly break down the food you consume, especially proteins and fats.

When we aren’t digesting our food, it ends up sitting in our gut and rotting (gross!). This rotting, or putrefaction, means that your body isn’t attaining the nutrients from the food. Instead, it creates bad acids and ammonia gas which go on to wreak havoc on the body and mind.

Celery juice has the ability to help restore the stomach’s natural blend of acids. It also helps to heal the liver, which is responsible for producing bile. When the liver is performing optimally and producing bile, it helps strengthen the digestive system and decrease constipation.

Celery Juice: Fad or For Real?

How do we know that Celery Juice is not just another fad?

As I advise all of my clients, the best way to know is to do an experiment! We are all incredibly unique and there is no research study that can tell us what will work best for us right now until we conduct it on ourselves.

I started drinking 16 oz of pure celery juice daily at the beginning of December 2018. That was about 3 months ago. The results were almost instantaneous and truly miraculous. I have probably pooped more in the last 3 months than I have in any 1 year of my life! It almost makes me wonder how much “catching up” I have to do!

I didn’t know based on some study or scientific evidence that celery juice would help me. The only way to find out was to try it and see how it affected me. Within a week, I could see a major shift had occured and so I decided it was worth it to keep going. Now, I often have my first bowel movement before I even have my morning celery juice. Pooping before breakfast and coffee was unheard of in my life up until now!

While I have certainly see a few other shifts since starting daily celery juice, the constipation piece has been the most notable change. I know that some of my other digestive symptoms (gas and bloating) are not far behind now that I am no longer constipated.

I plan on continuing to drink this miracle tonic every day for now. With the exception of an upcoming trip planned to Europe this spring. Sadly, I don’t think my juicer will fit in my backpack. However, you can bet that I’ll be looking for fresh pressed celery juice while I’m traveling!

I am actually very curious to see how these months of daily celery juice affect me while I take a break from it. Maybe I will have restored enough of my body’s ability to produce it’s own stomach acid that I will be able to go a few weeks without this helpful aide and without any noticeable symptoms. I’ll just have to do my own experiment!

Ready To Try Celery Juice? Here Are A Few Tips:

  • This is the juicer that I use and love. It fits perfectly in my tiny RV kitchen, which means it can probably fit in yours too! And it only takes me 3 minutes to clean! The Aicok Slow Masticating Juicer Extractor is my most used kitchen tool.
  • Celery juice holds the most power when consumed in the morning on an empty stomach, about 20 minutes before eating other foods.
  • To gain the most benefit, drink 16 oz of pure celery juice daily.
  • If you have difficulty with the flavor, juice some cucumber with the celery. Slowly decrease the amount of cucumber as you get used to the taste.
  • I rinse and break my celery stalks into three pieces before trying to juice them, this seems to help the juicing process go more smoothly.
  • Celery juice is most powerful when consumed fresh and right after juicing. Really, it only takes 10 minutes to prep, juice, and clean. Isn’t a good poop worth that much?
  • Try to stick to organic celery. If conventional is all that is available, be sure to wash it well and trust that the benefits of the celery are outweighing the conventional by-products.
